Lokta Paper Sheets (Bulk)

Wholesale Lokta Paper Sheets for Crafters, Artists, and Manufacturers

For buyers who use Lokta paper as a raw material — bookbinders, paper crafters, artists, designers, packaging companies, and manufacturers — we supply bulk Lokta paper sheets in a wide range of weights, sizes, colors, and textures. Lokta paper is produced in the Baglung and Myagdi districts of western Nepal, where Daphne bushes grow abundantly at 5,000-10,000 feet altitude. The bark is sustainably harvested — the plant regenerates from its root system within 5-7 years, making Lokta one of the world's most sustainable paper sources. Our bulk sheets are graded for consistency in thickness, color, and texture to meet commercial production standards.

Wholesale MOQ 500 sheets per color/weight

How It's Made

Understanding the production process helps you appreciate the craftsmanship and communicate the product story to your customers.

In hill villages of Baglung and Myagdi districts, Lokta bark is stripped from Daphne bushes during the dry season. The bark is soaked in water for several days, then boiled with wood ash (natural alkali) for 4-6 hours to soften the fibers. The softened bark is pounded by hand with wooden mallets on stone slabs until it forms a smooth pulp. The pulp is mixed with water in a vat, and a wooden frame covered with muslin cloth is dipped in to collect an even layer of pulp. The frame is placed in the sun to dry for 4-8 hours. The dried sheet is peeled from the frame, inspected, and graded by weight and quality. Sheets are bundled and transported to Kathmandu for distribution.

Lokta Paper Sheets (Bulk) — Frequently Asked Questions

What GSM weights are available?
We produce Lokta paper from 20 GSM (ultra-thin tissue, translucent) to 150 GSM (heavy cardstock). Standard weights are: 30 GSM (tissue/lampshade), 50 GSM (gift wrap/art), 60 GSM (stationery/journal pages), 80 GSM (covers/cards), and 120+ GSM (cardstock/boxes). We can produce custom weights to your specification.
Can Lokta paper be printed on with modern printers?
Lokta paper can be used with inkjet printers (not laser — the heat can damage the natural fibers). For best results, use heavier Lokta sheets (60+ GSM) and allow extra drying time. The paper's natural texture creates a distinctive print quality different from commercial paper. Many artists and designers use Lokta paper for limited edition prints, wedding invitations, and specialty packaging.
