Lampshade frames are hand-formed from steel wire or bent bamboo, shaped into spheres, cylinders, cubes, or custom forms. Lokta paper — selected for appropriate weight and translucency — is cut and wrapped around the frame, adhered with natural rice paste. Multi-layer designs use overlapping paper in different colors or prints to create depth and pattern variation when lit. Some designs feature cut-out silhouettes backed with contrasting paper. Each lampshade is inspected for even light transmission and structural integrity.

Are Lokta lampshades safe to use with light bulbs?
Lokta lampshades are designed for use with LED bulbs, which produce minimal heat. We strongly recommend LED bulbs (included in our product care instructions). We do NOT recommend incandescent or halogen bulbs due to heat. For added safety, we can apply fire-retardant treatment to the paper at no extra cost.
Can lampshades be shipped flat-packed?
Yes, many of our lampshade designs can be shipped flat-packed with simple assembly instructions (pop-up or slot-together wire frames). This dramatically reduces shipping volume and cost — critical for a lightweight, high-volume product. Flat-pack options are available for round, cylindrical, and cube shapes.
